USPS Holiday Surcharge for 2022

As summer turns to fall, ecommerce businesses start preparing for the increased volume that accompanies the holiday season. The USPS has announced a holiday surcharge that will be in effect from Oct. 2 through Jan. 23, 2023. This is a temporary rate change that the USPS has implemented to help offset the added complexity and expense of operations during peak season.

Here’s a look at how prices will increase for different services:

  • $0.75 increase for PM and PME Flat Rate Boxes and Envelopes.
  • $0.25 increase for Zones 1-4, 0-10 lbs.
  • $0.80 increase for Zones 5-9, 0-10 lbs.
  • $0.75 increase for Zones 1-4, 11-25 lbs.
  • $2.80 increase for Zones 5-9, 11-25 lbs.
  • $3.00 increase for Zones 1-4, 26-70 lbs.
  • $6.50 increase for Zones 5-9, 26-70 lbs.

These holiday-related surcharges should not be confused with the USPS’s annual rate change. Late in each year, the USPS announces rate increases that go into effect early in the following year. Expect an announcement in the coming weeks regarding permanent rate increases for 2022.
