ShipEngineer Spotlight: Jim Gagliardi

What is your role at ShipEngine?

I’m the General Manager of ShipEngine. I have overall responsibilities for the business, including the business strategy, product direction, and customer experience.

What does your typical work day look like? 

I spend most of my day talking with customers and prospects to understand their ecommerce needs, and working with our teams internally to address those needs.

How long have you been working on ShipEngine?

I’ve been at ShipEngine for almost a year.

How did you get into this type of work?

I’ve spent 20 years in the ecommerce industry having worked in a variety of disciplines including as a chief product officer, chief technology officer, and chief marketing officer.

What is one of your proudest achievements? 

I’m very proud of our overall customer satisfaction. 

What tech do you get to work with?

These days I spend most of my time in Slack, Zoom, and Excel.

What did you want to be when you “grow-up”?

I wanted to be an architect.  

If you could have any super power, what would it be and why?

I have the power to make a plate of donuts disappear.  

I’d love to have the superpower of omnilingualism, so I understand and speak in any language fluently.

Do you have any hidden talents?

I am equally comfortable working with Photoshop as I am working in CLI.

What’s one feature of ShipEngine you want more users to discover?

Paperless Labels is a relatively new feature that allows customers to use QR codes on their mobile phones instead of printing a label at home.

How do you spend your free time?

Building with Legos with my kids.
