After a long winter without a meeting, the Austin Homegrown API Meetup is officially back.
Last week, the ShipEngine team welcomed API creators, consumers and enthusiasts to our new headquarters in Austin, TX. The occasion: relaunching the Meetup, which had been on hiatus since last November.
More than 50 people joined us at the Meetup for food, drink, networking and presentations by James Messinger (Product Director at ShipEngine) and Karen White (Developer Advocate at BigCommerce).

James Messinger of ShipEngine kicked off the evening with a presentation on API Documentation. His talk, officially titled “Documenting APIs: From 406 Not Acceptable to 200 OK,” touched on topics like: types of documentation, the developer experience, discoverability, build or buy, and more.

Karen White of BigCommerce served as keynote speaker, presenting on how to design a developer portal. Her talk, titled “{Re}Designing a Developer Portal (That Your Developers Will Want to Use),” covered a range of topics, including: deciding what to build, identifying stakeholders, creating developer personas, scoring developer portals, and more.
